🌿 What to Sow in July: Keep Your Garden Thriving All Summer inc free sowing planner

Think it’s too late to sow seeds? Think again! July may be midsummer, but it’s actually a brilliant time to sow a whole host of flowers, herbs, and vegetables that will keep your garden full of life long into autumn — and even into next spring.

Whether you're topping up your borders, refreshing your veg beds, or sowing some late-season colour in pots, July is full of potential.

🌼 Welcome to the Late Bloomers Club!

Here at Curriott Hill Nursery, we believe it's never too late to sow something lovely. That’s why we’re launching the Late Bloomers Club — a light-hearted name for all of us who forgot, got busy, or simply want a second wave of garden joy.

So grab your trowel and your favourite seed packets — let’s sow something beautiful.

🥕 Vegetables to Sow in July

July is a great time to sow quick-growing crops and those that enjoy the slightly cooler weather to come:

  • Beetroot – Sow every couple of weeks for tender roots through autumn.

  • Carrots – Choose quick-maturing varieties like Autumn King

  • Lettuce – Loose-leaf types like  Lolla Rossa

  • Dwarf French Beans – Still time for a late flush if sown now.

  • Radish – A fast, satisfying crop that’ll be ready in under 4 weeks.

🌱 Tip: Sow in partial shade to avoid bolting during hot spells.

🌸 Flowers to Sow in July

You can still sow hardy annuals and biennials that will bloom late or establish for next year:

  • Calendula – Tough and golden, it’ll bloom well into autumn.

  • Cornflower Great for wildlife and late-season colour.

  • Nasturtiums – Quick-growing and edible too!

  • Sweet William – Sow now for blooms next spring.

  • Wallflowers – Biennial favourites with lovely scent next year.

🌸 Late sowers often avoid pests like aphids — another win for the Late Bloomers Club!

🌿 Herbs and Other Highlights

  • Coriander – Loves the shorter days and cooler nights ahead.

  • Dill – Fast to grow and perfect for pickling season.

  • Parsley – Sow now for winter use and early spring growth.
