PEA - "EARLY ONWARD"

These peas produce dark green pods packed with full flavour well, filled pods. 

We can vouch for the delicious sweet taste these pods produce; in fact, a lot of the time, they never made it up to the house and were picked and eaten as snacks whilst down the veggie patch. They taste so much better than shop-bought peas, and it's much more fun to grow your own.

These peas are prolific and grow up to 60cm, or plant them in a greenhouse/polytunnel, love winter and use the shoots in a winter salad.( this is what we are trialling this winter)

Companion plants for peas 

The best plants to grow with peas are plants that thrive in the same environment as peas and have the same watering and nutritional needs. These include carrots, sweetcorn, radish, beans, tomato, peppers, celery & parsley. All of these plants will benefit from not having to compete with peas for nitrogen, as peas and beans(legumes) fix nitrogen from the air and don’t deplete nitrogen from the soil

How to grow Pea Early onward

Sow March-May

How?

Prepare a flat bottom drill 5cm deep and 10cm wide and Space seeds 5cm apart throughout the drill allowing 60cm (24in) between the drills, cover over with soil and gently tamp down with the back of a rake.

It is advisable to give some net protection against birds once seedlings start to grow, then add some net support for plants to climb and hold the crop.
