Boltardy is one of the most popular types of beetroot to grow; not only are they one of the best for early sowing, but they also have good resistance to bolting too.

Medium in size with round roots with a lovely deep red colour, seedlings can appear as soon as 5-7 days after sowing.

Did you know? The whole beetroot is edible from its roots to its deep green leaves and is rich in calcium, folic acid & beta carotene.

We have grown these a number of times in our vegetable patch and can vouch for their delicious taste.

Companion Planting  Parsley,  basil, and dill are fine companion plants for beets; you can also grow cabbage plants as a companion,  as they offer some protection for the growing beetroots and provide shade in the hot sun. Beets will be happy with all members of the brassica family, even swedes and kohl rabi.

How to sow Boltardy beetroot seeds

Thinly in shallow drills, 1.5cm deep and around 30cm apart, thin out the seedlings as they grow to around 10cm apart.
