Size

An old variety of cabbage that has been around since the victorian times and has stood the test of time over the last 100 years.

Well-flavoured, compact, dark leafy heads for use in April and early May and in autumn.

Feed them with a high nitrogen feed in early spring to encourage their growth, and regularly pick to avoid them cropping all at the same time.


Did you know that the wheeler's imperial is a fantastic source of vitamins A, C & B, with the darkest leaves containing the most?

Companion planting

Try growing alongside nasturtiums to help draw away the cabbage, white butterflies, and mint to deter flea beetle

Sow.  March-May & July-August

How to sow wheelers Imperial seed

Thinly in shallow drills, 2cm deep, keep well watered as they grow thin to 5cm apart; when they reach 10-15cm, it's time to move them to their final growing space with a distance of 35-40cm.

Harvest 

Pick & enjoy January to March the following year
