Clarkia Crown Double Mixed Seeds Hardy Annual Godetia Cut Flower

A gorgeous cottage-garden hardy annual with frilly, double blooms in a romantic mix of pinks, whites, lilacs and deeper rose shades. Clarkia is easy to grow, loved by pollinators, and makes a brilliant cut flower for vases. Once established it copes well, but it flowers best in a sunny spot with well-drained soil.

Simple sow & grow (UK)

Best method: sow direct where it will flower (Clarkia prefers not to be transplanted)

1) When to sow
• Spring: March–May
• Optional (milder/sheltered areas): September for earlier flowers the following year

2) Where to sow
• Full sun (or very light shade)
• Well-drained soil; avoid overly rich soil (too much leaf, fewer flowers)

3) How to sow (direct outdoors)
• Weed and rake the soil to a fine tilth
• Sow thinly into shallow drills or scatter over the surface
• Cover very lightly with fine soil (about 0.5cm) and gently firm
• Water gently and keep the soil just moist until seedlings appear

4) Aftercare
• Germination is usually around 7–21 days (often quicker in warmer conditions)
• Thin seedlings to roughly 10–15cm apart (for fuller plants)
• Water during dry spells, especially while establishing
• If plants get tall, support with a few twiggy sticks

5) Flowering & picking
• Flowers through summer (often into early autumn depending on sowing time)
• Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms
• Cut for vases when stems are fresh and flowers are just opening
