CHIVE HERB SEED - 300 SEEDS

A delicious evergreen herb that will come back year after year. The slim, elegant dark green leaves can be snipped with scissors and used as a spicy addition to salads, or in soups, stews, curries and potato salad.

The pale mauve pom-pom-like flowers, which are produced in early summer, are also edible and look wonderful sprinkled over a summer salad.

This is a very decorative addition to herb or vegetable gardens and will attract pollinators to your garden.

When to sow chive seed

Sow.  March-May or all year round on a sunny windowsill

How to sow chive seeds

Sow seeds 0.5cm (¼") deep, in small pots of compost, lightly covering the seed with a sprinkling of compost.

Water well and place at a temperature of 15-20°C. Alternatively, sow outdoors March-May where they are to crop, 0.5cm (¼") deep, directly into finely-prepared soil.

Grow a few plants on a light windowsill for easy kitchen use. If transplanting outside gradually harden off in a cold frame before planting out 20cm (8") apart once all risk of frost has passed.

Seeds sowed direct outside should be thinned out to 15-20cm (6-8in) apart.
