Simple sow & grow (UK)

1) When to sow
• Sow indoors in mid–late spring for best results (plants get a head start)
• Direct sow outdoors later in spring/early summer once frost risk has passed

2) How to sow (indoors – recommended)
• Sow into 7–8cm pots/modules of seed compost
• Sow 2–3 seeds per pot, 2.5cm (1") deep
• Tip: place seeds on their side (helps reduce rotting)
• Keep warm and bright; keep compost just moist (not soggy)
• When seedlings are up, keep the strongest plant and remove the others

3) Pot on & harden off
• Pot on if roots fill the pot
• Harden off for 7–10 days before planting outside

4) Planting out / spacing
• Plant outside after the last frost in a sunny, sheltered spot
• Improve soil with plenty of compost/manure
• Allow lots of room: space plants roughly 1–2 metres apart (vines spread!)
• Water well after planting

5) Ongoing care
• Water regularly in dry weather, especially once fruits start swelling
• Mulch around plants to hold moisture and reduce weeds
• Feed every 1–2 weeks once flowers appear (tomato feed works well)

6) Harvest
• Harvest in early autumn when the skin is hard and fully coloured
• Cut with a short stem attached and store somewhere cool, dry and airy
