This beautiful kale not only looks lovely with its bright pink veins it's nutritional too!

you can pick this kale at any stage as small baby leaves or as a mature plant plus it will brighten up your winter veggie patch.

We have this in our vegetable patch at the moment and tastes great added to a salad or cooked up in a meal.

Onions, including spring and shallots, are ideal companions for kale; the leaves of onions have a strong smell that will help to mask the smell of the kale from butterflies, flea beetles and aphids. Butterflies, such as the cabbage white, lay eggs on kale leaves.

Sow the seeds thinly into a well-prepared seed bed in shallow drills 1.5cm deep in short rows or thinly in seed trays or two seeds per cell in modules under glass at 13C. 

Your outdoor sowings should be thinned out to 7-10cm apart; once the plants are large enough, lift and transplant them to their final planting positions 45cm apart and 60cm between the rows to grow on to maturity.
