Sowing Instructions:

  1. When to Sow: Sow seeds indoors from February to April or directly outdoors in May once the risk of frost has passed.
  2. Soil Preparation: Choose well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Incorporate compost to enhance soil quality and drainage.
  3. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds lightly on the surface of the soil and cover with a thin layer of fine compost or soil, approximately 0.5 cm deep.
  4. Germination: Seeds typically germinate within 14-21 days at temperatures of 18-22°C.

Growing Instructions:

  1. Transplanting: If starting indoors, transplant seedlings when they have at least two sets of true leaves, spacing them 30 cm (12 inches) apart in the garden.
  2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to encourage healthy growth.
  3. Soil Care: Regularly weed around plants to reduce competition for nutrients. A layer of mulch can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  4. Fertilising: Feed with a balanced fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to promote lush growth and aromatic leaves.
  5. Pest Control: Monitor for pests such as aphids. Encourage beneficial insects or use organic pest control methods as necessary.
  6. Harvesting: Begin harvesting leaves once plants are well established, typically after about 8-10 weeks. Cut leaves as needed, taking care not to remove more than one-third of the plant at a time to ensure continued growth.
