Perpetual Spinach is a productive, cut-and-come-again leaf vegetable that provides a steady supply of tender green leaves over many months. Easy to grow and extremely reliable in UK conditions, it’s ideal for vegetable gardens, raised beds, and allotments.

Why Grow Perpetual Spinach?

  • Harvest leaves continuously for months

  • More heat-tolerant than true spinach

  • Reliable performer in UK conditions

  • Ideal for beginners and small gardens

  • Excellent value from a single sowing

Despite its name, perpetual spinach is actually a type of leaf beet, prized for its long harvesting season and mild flavour.

“Perfect alongside beetroot, lettuce and chard for a productive salad garden.”

How to Sow Perpetual Spinach Seeds (UK Guide)

  • Sowing time: March–July

  • Where: Direct sow outdoors

  • Seed depth: 2–3cm

  • Spacing: Thin to 25–30cm between plants

  • Germination: 7–14 days

Each seed is a cluster — thin seedlings carefully to leave the strongest plant.

Growing Instructions

  • Grow in sun or light partial shade

  • Prefers fertile, well-drained soil

  • Water regularly, especially in dry spells

  • Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds

  • Remove outer leaves regularly to encourage new growth

Harvesting & Use

  • Harvest period: From 6–8 weeks after sowing

  • Pick outer leaves little and often

  • Use like spinach in cooking

  • Suitable for steaming, sautéing, soups, and pies

Perpetual spinach continues cropping well into autumn and often over winter in mild areas.
