Key Features:

  • Variety: Rhubarb Perpetual

  • Hardy: Thrives in various climates and soil types
  • Easy to Grow: Suitable for all skill levels

Sowing Instructions:

  1. When to Sow: Sow seeds indoors from February to March or directly outdoors from April to May after the last frost.
  2. Soil Preparation: Choose fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Enrich soil with compost or well-rotted manure to support growth.
  3. Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 1 cm deep and space them about 30 cm apart in rows.
  4. Germination: Seeds typically germinate within 2-3 weeks at temperatures between 18-22°C.

Growing Instructions:

  1. Transplanting: If starting indoors, transplant seedlings when they reach 15 cm in height, spacing them 60-90 cm apart to accommodate mature plants.
  2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and temperature.
  3. Fertilising: Feed plants with a balanced fertiliser each spring to support robust growth. Enrich soil with compost in autumn for added nutrients.
  4. Weeding: Remove weeds regularly to prevent competition for nutrients. Mulching can also help suppress weeds.
  5. Pest Control: Keep an eye out for aphids and slugs. Use organic pest control as necessary to keep your rhubarb plants healthy.
  6. Harvesting: Avoid harvesting in the first year to allow plants to establish. From the second year onward, harvest stalks when they are 25-30 cm long by cutting at the base. Avoid pulling, which can damage the plant.
