Lady Di produces heavy crops of tender, completely stringless 30cm long runner beans over a long season.
Due to their slow seed development, the beans are fleshy and delicious. They can reach around 3m in height with a spread of 30cm, so will need support with canes.
Companion planting: Try growing runner beans with sweetpeas to attract pollinating insects to the flowers, and nasturtiums to draw aphids away from your crop.

How to grow Runner bean Lady Di

Sow April-June

How?

Early sowings can be made under glass at a temperature of 16°C; sow 3 seeds per 8cm pot filled with seed-sowing compost.
Outside sowings can be made from May onwards into the growing site 5cm (2in) deep. Sow 2-3 seeds every 20-30cm(8-12in) apart with rows spaced 60cm (24in) apart.

 

To optimise your crop, place your canes 30-45cm apart with 3 beans planted per cane & water regularly during dry weather.
