SWEDE SEED - "MARIAN" - 100 SEEDS

A firm favourite mashed with carrot. 

 swede Marian has a purple top and paler yellow flesh, and a good uniform shape; it's a good hardy root vegetable with good resistance to club root and mildew and stores well in a frost-free shed in dry sand use throughout the winter.

Did you know?   Swedes are an excellent source of potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins E & C. They also contain a moderate amount of folate, a B vitamin that's important for metabolism, protein synthesis, and DNA replication.

Companion planting: Peas and swedes have a symbiotic relationship, as peas enrich the soil around turnips with beneficial nitrogen, and swedes act as a natural repellent to harmful aphids. Onions are a great friend too!

How to grow Swede Marian

When

Sow direct outdoors into shallow drills 2cm (3/4in) deep and 45cm (18in) between the rows.

Sow.  May-June

How?

Thinly in shallow drills, on prepared drills or in cells under cover ready to plant out when bigger. Gradually thin the seedlings as they grow to a final spacing of 10-15cm (4-6in) apart. Water regularly to avoid woody roots. They are very hardy vegetables, so they can be harvested as required.
